The 2016 SG Special T uses the same supreme tonewood species as its predecessor of nearly 50 years ago, carries the same rock-solid, time-tested hardware complement as the legendary SGs of the '60s, is powered by a pair of genuine Alnico humbucking pickups, and of course offers all the superb playability that has made Gibson famous. The cool, no-nonsense appearance that countless guitarists prefer, makes it an outstanding value in a genuine American-made Gibson guitar. Along with other guitars in Gibson USA’s 2016 Traditional series the SG Special 2016 T has our original neck width of 1 11/16-inch at the nut, historic neck heel shape, standard high-quality manual tuners, a traditional Graph Tech nut, and a thicker one-piece rosewood fingerboard with a hand-rubbed oil finish for a plush look and feel. Put it together, and you’ve got a genuine American-made Gibson guitar that captures the vibe of the great originals at an incredible price. Gibson USA sets up your SG Special 2016 T so it plays the way any truly great American-made guitar should, right out of the padded gigbag.

Body and neckThe body of the SG Special 2016 T is crafted from thin, lightweight solid mahogany in the classic asymmetrical double-cutaway style with comfortably beveled edges and a high-gloss finish. The glued-in mahogany neck uses the classic neck heel shape, and has the original width of 1 11/16-inch at the nut. The neck has a thicker one-piece rosewood fingerboard with a hand-rubbed oil finish, and dot inlays. | Pickups and electronicsThe 490R and 490T humbuckers in the SG Special T are part of Gibson’s Modern Classic series, and are made with Alnico magnets and 42 AWG wire like the best PAFs of old, but updated to the needs of contemporary players for outstanding versatility. They are routed through the classic complement of individual volume and tone controls and a three-way switch. | HardwareTraditional tuners, a Tune-o-matic bridge, and stopbar tailpiece enhance the guitar’s classic looks, while providing rock-solid anchoring and superb tuning stability. | Protective gigbagThe guitar comes protected in a padded gigbag and includes an Owner’s Manual. |

Gibson USA is inspired by a tradition of innovation that stretches back to the company’s origin in 1896. Since then, the contributions Gibson has made to the art of guitar making have been continuously impressive—the humbucking pickup, Tune-o-matic bridge, adjustable truss rod, triple-pickup guitar, semi-hollowbody guitar, P-90 pickup, cryogenically-treated frets, automatic tuning, the zero-fret adjustable nut and much more—including radical body shapes like the Flying V, Explorer and Thunderbird. Introduced in 1952, the Gibson Les Paul has become—and remains—the world’s most iconic guitar.
With every instrument proudly produced in Nashville, Tennessee, Gibson USA keeps two important traditions alive: the tradition of innovation, and the tradition of hand-crafted instruments that are “American Made, World Played.” The Gibson team is driven by a passion for perfection—even the process of selecting, grading, and sorting wood for each specific guitar requires considerable expertise, as does the engineering research behind pickup design and selecting materials that strike the ideal blend of style, tone and durability.
What may be most recognizable about a Gibson USA guitar isn’t the distinctive shape, technical sophistication, or exceptional playability—it’s the magic. When people play a Gibson USA guitar, they experience the result of hundreds of human hands working to make the best guitar possible. Just by picking one up and holding it in your hands, you can share in the rich heritage that reaches back to the 19th century, the visual appeal of a work of art and the connection to the world’s greatest artists who have chosen to express themselves with guitars from Gibson USA.
